NT Independent’s 2021 Year in Review – Part 1

by | Dec 28, 2021 | News | 0 comments

This is the first installment of the NT Independent’s 2021 Year in Review, in which we reflect on the stories that made news this year, and in most cases, stories that would never have come to light had the NT Independent not existed.

It seems the Territory has not been able to improve things since last year, and if a complete lack of faith in its institutions was a problem before, it only became worse as the year wore on.

The great political soap opera continued, with Ministers spending taxpayer money with more reckless abandon; the Chief Minister succumbing to pressure and revealing his secret China deal and then suggesting the country could have what they want if they agree not to invade; the out-of-control crime problem reared its ugly head with no solutions; the Labor Cocaine Sex Scandal was unearthed and the Great Cover-up implemented; then some NT-style consequences happen for one but nobody else; the Chief Minister was almost referred for disciplinary action for breaching the MLA code of conduct for banning the free press; the assistant police commissioner mass exodus began; the NT Police executive start to be exposed for keeping serious sexual assaults from the public after a horrific crime on a child in his front yard is reported; the first look at Gunner’s high-flying taxpayer-funded trips started to be exposed; a sex offender was caught outside a child’s bedroom with a ‘rape kit’, but the police media team determined nobody should be aware it happened.

And that was only the first three months of the year. This is the first installment of the NT Independent’s 2021 Year in Review.
