A petition against establishing a new Throb outdoor nightclub at East Point Reserve has attracted almost 1000 signatures in 24 hours, the Environment Centre NT has said.
The petition was organised by the centre and a number of other concerned stakeholders who are against establishing the venue at East Point.
Environment Centre NT director Shar Molloy said the petition and a Facebook page called Save East Point were developed to protect the area from development.
“East Point Nature Reserve is a very special place,” she said.
“The proposed day and night club should find an alternate venue where it won’t have such a damaging impact on the local environment or impinge upon people’s enjoyment of this area.
“The petition and Facebook page have been organised on behalf of a large group of stakeholders concerned about the proposal.”

Ms Molloy said the petition had received 954 signatures in under 24 hours since it was launched.
On Monday the NT Independent exclusively revealed the new outdoor venue proposed by Throb’s owners, which received approval from Darwin Council last week.
Throb owner Tim Palmer compared the venue to the iconic KU DE TA beachfront club in Bali and said it would be a family-friendly location and would not impact the environment.
The open-air sunset lounge was proposed to be built near Dudley Point and was set to be called “Throb on Point”.
Designs show the U-shaped venue would be constructed facing the sea and will be capable of housing 500 people.
A range of groups have voiced their concerns over the proposal, suggesting it should be located elsewhere.
Alternate locations being suggested for the venue including the Esplanade, Vesteys Beach and the Waterfront.
