Thousands of Territorians have been left frustrated after an overwhelming response to the NT Government’s $200 Tourism Vouchers crashed the website.

Registration for the government’s second round of coveted vouchers opened at 8pm last night – hours earlier than the first round – but the rush of punters quickly saw the government’s website head into a tailspin.

Territorians required to provide personal details to attend businesses under new COVID-19 measures

Despite never recording a case of coronavirus from community transmission, the NT Government will now force Territorians to “check-in” at venues by providing their personal details.

Anyone visiting a long list of businesses will have to provide their name and phone number as well as log the date and time of entry if they wish to spend more than 15 minutes in the business.

ABC increases ‘oversight’ at Darwin newsroom as potentially conflicted reporting emerges

The integrity of ABC Darwin’s reporting has been called into question with at least three stories written by Chief Minister Michael Gunner’s wife Kristy O’Brien over the last two years flagged as potentially biased and serving Mr Gunner’s political interests.

The stories were sent to the NT Independent last week after it was revealed the Chief Minister’s Office helped to facilitate a speaking engagement for the ABC reporter in contravention of the public broadcaster’s integrity policies.

Infant tests positive for COVID-19 while at Howard Springs quarantine facility

An infant under one who was repatriated to Australia last Tuesday from India has tested positive for COVID-19, NT health authorities say.

The NT Government said the child had tested negative for the virus upon arrival at the Howard Springs quarantine facility but turned positive at some point over the last nine days. The child’s mother and young sibling had tested positive for coronavirus last week.

Unrest in Wadeye sees home set on fire, people evacuated to hospital

Ongoing inter-family hostilities in one of the Northern Territory’s largest Aboriginal communities erupted over the weekend, leaving several people injured and a house set on fire, NT Police have confirmed.

But Police said they are only now “considering stepping up resources in the community”, after days of increased unrest that has left many in the community feeling “very unsafe”.

‘I couldn’t get up’: Cops arrest one in brutal attack and robbery of disabled senior, as victim recounts ordeal

One of four males who allegedly robbed and assaulted a 67-year-old wheelchair-bound man in his Malak residence has been charged, NT Police said, while the victim has described the ordeal as a scene from a horror movie.

Police said they are actively hunting down the three other alleged thieves, aged between 17 to 21, involved in the robbery and assault.
