Police union boss backs Murphy, says he ‘reflected on behaviour and learned from it’

The NT Police Association has backed Commissioner Michael Murphy after he failed to investigate racist material last year and lied to the public about it, with the union’s boss saying Mr Murphy has done “everything to rectify the situation”, but was unable to point to one instance in which the NTPA has publicly criticised the Commissioner specifically for any issue.

Police Minister Brent Potter has thrown his support behind embattled Police Commissioner Michael Murphy after it was revealed at a coronial inquest on Wednesday that Mr Murphy chose not to investigate racist awards handed out by the NT Police tactical unit when he first became aware of them last year and lied to the public about his knowledge of the awards six months later.
