Three females allegedly stole a 4WD in Darwin, before using it to steal fuel from Threeways Roadhouse, and later crashing it into another vehicle in Tennant Creek, NT Police said.

Police director of communications, Mark Wilton, said the silver Toyota Hilux was reported missing from a house in Darwin at 9.30am on Saturday.

Mr Wilton said that on Sunday at 8:45am, the three females allegedly stole unspecified items from Threeways Roadhouse, 25km north of Tennant Creek, and also drove away in the 4WD without paying for fuel.

At an unspecified time not long after, the 4WD crashed into another vehicle along Paterson Street in Tennant Creek, police said, with both vehicles substantially damaged.

The 36-year-old female of the other vehicle was taken to Tennant Creek Hospital with minor injuries.

Mr Wilton said the two passengers of the allegedly stolen vehicle were arrested, while the driver is still on the run.
