Four ‘at risk’ youths under the care of Territory Families contractors allegedly stole a car belonging to one of their carers and took it for a joy ride around Palmerston Thursday night.
A stolen Volkswagon Golf was seen driving erratically in the Moulden and Gray areas, before blowing out three tyres and eventually crashing on Emery Street, where the quartet fled.
A witness told the NT Independent all four occupants looked like they were in their “very early teens”.
“The driver was tiny, he could barely see over the steering wheel,” the witness said.
“The occupants looked to be in their low teens and presumed to be all boys.
“They took the car on a joyride, basically.”
The source said the car was first spotted at around 7.30pm in Moulden.
“There were sightings of a car that was driving erratically around Palmerston,” they said.
“It ended up busting three wheels in lower Moulden and then ended up crashing into a fence on Emery Street in Gray.”
A video obtained by the NT Independent shows the car crashing into a fence at around midnight, with the occupants fleeing towards Dillon Circuit.
Police attended the scene to find the vehicle abandoned with only one tyre remaining.
The NT Police and Territory Families were contacted for comment.
