Govt proceeding with $820m Ship Lift after report finds serious issues with transparency and decision-making

The government department in charge of the Darwin Ship Lift facility ignored advice from the Auditor General to order a cost-benefit analysis into the now $820 million project, stating it would do that when the project is complete, a new report has found, but nobody has been held accountable for the massive cost blowout, with the Finocchiaro CLP Government advised to continue with the project amid untested claims it cannot terminate the contract and has spent too much money to stop now.

The NT Police’s ongoing New Zealand officer recruitment campaign has that country’s top cop asking why the NT couldn’t have given him a ‘heads up’ phone call before the latest drive, that saw nearly 40 Kiwi officers sign-up earlier this year, but he said many have stated they “lack the support from bosses” here in “pretty harsh” conditions and are looking to return home.
