A home being constructed from locally sourced termite mound mud bricks and using other sustainable designed principles developed by Warumungu community members is nearing completion in Tennant Creek, with the project aiming to serve as a model for future government-funded housing.

Wilya Janta’s chief operating officer Dr Simon Quilty said the model home’s innovative design features included high-thermal-mass walls – termite mound mud bricks – ensuring the house remains cool even during extreme heat, along with with solar panels, battery storage, and a rainwater harvesting system, providing a reliable and environmentally friendly living space.
