Basketball associations audited as questions over solvency of Darwin Salties remain unanswered

An audit of the finances of the Darwin Salties, the Darwin Basketball Association, and Basketball Northern Territory is being conducted by KPMG under the direction of Basketball Australia with input from the Northern Territory Government, following an ongoing financial crisis in the sport, with a source telling the NT Independent the organisations lost about $1.6 million combined over the last two years.

A tender to paint CLP Minister Marie-Clare Boothby’s electorate office and “move furniture” was put out to the market at a cost of between $500,000 and $1 million, government records show, which the Minister claims she shut down over the huge price tag, but the tender was active for at least a week before being removed, the NT Independent can reveal.
