A 34-year-old hoon who did a burnout in front of police and sped away from a random breathe testing station at 160km/hr has had his vehicle seized.
NT Police spokesman Rob Cross said that about 9:45pm on Wednesday, a Toyota LandCruiser ute approached the breath testing station on the Stuart Hwy, Katherine doing a sharp U-turn and burnout and speeding off.
Police were forced to terminate the pursuit when the ute allegedly reached speeds up to 160km/hr.
Mr Cross the ute was found abandoned in bushland a short time later after the driver and his female passenger ran off.
A search of the vehicle located a less than traffickable quantity of cannabis, police allege.
Mr Cross said the ute was seized under anti-hooning legislation and the driver was fined for driving a vehicle causing a loss of traction and three counts of exceeding the speed limit.
He was also issued with a drug infringement notice and fined $2514, while the 21-year-old passenger was issued a drug infringement notice and fined $354.
