A 28-year-old woman died in a Malak residence Wednesday morning, NT Police said, with her 26-year-old partner arrested at the scene for an alleged earlier assault on the woman hours before she was found unresponsive.

Police said in a statement a neighbour reported the unresponsive female at a residence on Paqualin Road around 9:20am.

Police arrived and commenced CPR on the woman until paramedics arrived, but the woman was declared dead shortly after, police media director Mark Wilton said in a statement.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation, and the cause of death is currently unknown,” he said.

The woman’s 26-year-old partner was arrested at the scene “for an alleged prior assault on the victim in the hours proceeding, and for breaching a Domestic Violence Order against the victim”, Mr Wilton said.

Police have declared a crime scene with Major Crime detectives currently investigating the woman’s death, with a report to be prepared for the Coroner.
