NT Police are looking for witnesses to two assaults over the weekend in Alice Springs that involved a group of youths demanding cigarettes from people before assaulting two men.

Around 5:30am Sunday, a group of youths approached a team of workers in a car park on Railway Terrace asking for cigarettes, before one of the young people allegedly physically assaulted one of the men and stole his cigarettes and ran off towards a service station.

Police said shortly after that incident another man was assaulted by a male youth demanding cigarettes on Bath Street around 5:40am.

Police said Stirke Force Viper is investigating both incidents and “are calling for witnesses, motorists with dash-cam or anyone who may have information which may assist in identifying the offender, to contact police on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via crimestoppersnt.com.au”.
