An allegedly intoxicated female driver has been arrested for attempting to run over a man in a pedestrian crossing in Darwin CBD on Sunday evening, NT Police have said.
Police received several reports from the public that the woman, who was driving a dark blue and silver Nissan ute, was attempting to run over a man near a car park in Packard Place and Smith Street intersection at about 8.30pm on Sunday, Northern Territory Watch Commander Siiri Tennosaar told ABC Radio .
“The woman has been observed to collide with a parked vehicle at the same location,” Cmdr Tennosaar said.
The 29-year-old woman was arrested at the scene for assault and traffic offences and remains in police custody.
An initial police investigation suggested that the woman may have been under the influence of alcohol, Cmdr Tennosaar said.
It’s understood the male pedestrian was uninjured.
“We are appealing to anybody who may have information or footage; you may contact the police and come forward,” Cmdr Tennosaar said.
