Bypass works on the long-delayed and over-budget Tiger Brennan overpass project that closed access to a gate at the Hidden Valley motor sports complex could mean the popular V8 Supercars event is cancelled next year, the new Minister for Logistics and Infrastructure has revealed, stating the department is currently “scrambling” to find a solution that would allow emergency vehicles to enter the facility.
Minister Bill Yan told Parliament on Wednesday that the previous Labor Government were informed by the then-department of infrastructure, planning and logistics that there were problems with the closure of a gate at the Hidden Valley motor sports complex due to road works that prevented emergency vehicles from entering, but that Labor did nothing about it and did not make that information public.
Lets be real. The ministers relied on public servants to do their job. The projects were awarded by the department staff and the people involved have 100 million to answer for. The NT cant continue with such outcomes that are at least gross incompetence. The size of the cost blowout demands serious questions especially given its not the only job and what will be the cost blowout for Mental Health?. An independent inquiry might be helpful.
Well what a surprise, $100 million as petty cash. The profit is in the add ons and extras but this amount is a bit above reasonable.
