Two motorcyclists were taken to hospital early Thursday morning after being struck by a silver hatchback in two separate alleged hit-and-runs, with the NT Police calling for the public’s help identifying the occupants of the car.
Police said the incidents started around 6am, when a motorcyclist was struck by the car on McMinn Street in Darwin City before the vehicle fled the scene, leaving the 30-year-old rider with serious wounds to his leg. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police said a short time later another hit-and-run was reported on Iliffe Street in Woolner, where another motorcyclist was reportedly struck by the car.
“In this instance, the occupants of the vehicle allegedly attempted to rob the fallen rider before being confronted and fleeing the scene,” police media director Mark Wilton said in a statement.
The 43-year-old rider was also taken to hospital with minor grazing injuries.
Police have been unable to locate the vehicle and are calling for the public’s help.
“Detectives from Serious Crime are currently investigating and police believe the hit-and-runs were intentional,” Mr Wilton said.
“Police urge anyone who witnessed the incidents, or who has dash cam or CCTV footage, to contact police and quote reference number P24293700.
“Anonymous reports can also be made through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via https://crimestoppersnt.com.au/.”
