A 14-year-old girl has been charged for allegedly throwing a rock at a service station attendant who was behind a Perspex screen, and then stealing lollies, while a 16-year-old boy, who was on bail, was charged for allegedly trying to break into houses and cars, and he allegedly drew a knife on officers when both were arrested at the same house, NT Territory Police said.

In a statement issued with no spokesperson’s name, police said officers had been investigating a reported aggravated robbery after a group of young people allegedly threatened an employee at a fuel station at Casuarina last week.

The group (the number of whom was not specified) entered the premises [allegedly] armed with an edged weapon, the un-named police spokesperson said, before [allegedly] demanding the employee open the door to the service counter.

“The employee refused and a 14-year-old female began [allegedly] hitting the service counter with a rock before allegedly throwing the rock at the employee who was standing behind a Perspex screen,” the statement said.

“While the female [allegedly] threatened the employee, the group [allegedly] stole a number of confectionary items before all [the alleged] offenders fled the scene.

“CCTV footage was reviewed by Strike Force Trident, which identified the female and a search to locate her was initiated.”

The statement alleged that last month, the boy, who was on court bail, was walking through Leanyer attempting to break into multiple houses and vehicles in the area, before breaking into a home on Fitzmaurice Drive.

Video footage obtained from a neighbouring property assisted Strike Force Trident members to identify the boy, the un-named spokesperson said.

“The pair were located however, during the arrest of the male, family members became aggressive towards police and attempted to hinder the arrest,” the police allege.

“The male [allegedly] armed himself with an edged weapon and [allegedly] threatened the officer before he was secured on the ground and arrested.

“The female, who was also an arrest target, [allegedly] made attempts to intervene before she was subsequently restrained and arrested.”

The statement said the boy was charged with trespassing, resisting police, and a serious breach of bail.

While the girl was charged with aggravated robbery, and hindering police, the statement said, with both expected to appear in court on 13 January 13.
