Two supermarket bottle shops were ram raided in Alice Springs on Monday morning, with the offenders running off after police stopped their car using tyre spikes, while a man was taken to hospital after being attacked with large sticks in a house break-in, NT Police said.

NT Police manager Margaret McKeown said in a statement that at 12am Monday, a grey Ford Ranger dual cab ute was stolen from Palm Place in Ross, and at 12.20am it was used to ram raid the Milner Road Foodtown supermarket on the corner of Gason St, and Milner Rd, Gillen.

“Up to five unknown offenders have entered the store before fleeing in the vehicle,” she said.

Photos from social media show a hole in the brick wall and a door next it being open but police did not say if anything was stolen.

Ms McKeown said that about 12:30am the ute was used again to ram raid Pigglys supermarket and bottle shop on Gap Rd, in The Gap.

“The five offenders have stolen a large quantity of alcohol before fleeing the scene,” she said.

Ms McKeown said the police used tyre spikes on the ute on Larapinta Drive a short time later, and all five ran off.

Police are also asking the public for information about a break-in at a house in Rose Court, Braitling, where Ms McKeown said that about 11pm, two men entered “armed with large sticks”.

“The offenders have assaulted a male victim before fleeing the scene,” she said.

Ms McKeown said the victim was taken to Alice Springs Hospital with bruising and small cuts to his face.

Anyone with any information can call police on 131 444, or can report anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
