Three businesses were ram raided in greater Darwin, including the Buff Club, while a licensed business in Palmerston was broken into twice in fours hours, and “machinery” was thrown at a police car during a pursuit of a stolen car, while cars were stolen and houses broken in a weekend which also saw two bottle shops broken into in Alice Springs, NT police said.

NT Police media manager Margaret McKeown said in a statement a 13-year-old and a 16-year-old were arrested at an unspecified time on Saturday after they allegedly stole a car after a break-in of a home in Sabine Rd, in Milner at an unspecified time the night before.

“A woman was sleeping when the armed pair entered the property, stealing several personal items and fleeing the scene in her vehicle,” she alleged.

“The vehicle was later sighted driving erratically in Coolalinga, along with a second vehicle.

“A police pursuit through the northern suburbs located the abandoned vehicles. After a search of the area, police discovered the pair hiding nearby.”

Ms McKeown said that in the early hours of Saturday, at an unspecified time, police chased a stolen vehicle along Channel Island Rd when the vehicle did a u-turn and drove at police.

“As the stolen vehicle passed police vehicles, the offenders threw machinery out the windows, hitting the police vehicles. The vehicle sped off.”

Later, she said, at an unspecified time, police saw the same vehicle with another stolen vehicle driving “excessively” on McMillian’s Rd in Darwin, and Strike Force Trident and dog operations members followed the vehicles to Palmerston before one of the vehicles stopped, and the offenders attempted to run off, and police arrested a 16-year-old of non-specified sex.

“The second vehicle was tracked to Adelaide River and located at the service station. Two offenders sighted police and fled the scene while the remaining three youths, aged 14, 17 and 17, stayed in the vehicle and were arrested without incident,” she said.

While about 2:30pm on Saturday, she said, police received reports the driver of a silver Ford Falcon sedan had threatened the front passenger of the vehicle with a knife.

“Police located the vehicle parked outside a business on Bishop St, Woolner. While attempting to approach the vehicle on foot, the vehicle has allegedly abruptly reversed in the direction of officers before striking the police vehicle and driving off at speed,” she said.

“A police pursuit was terminated due to the dangerous driving of the vehicle.”

Serious Crime Detectives arrested a 34-year-old man who is believed to be a passenger in the offending vehicle, at an unspecified time Monday morning, Ms McKeown said.

She said that just after midnight on Sunday morning, police were called to a break-in at an unspecified licensed business on Chung Wah Terrace in an unspecified part of Palmerston, where police saw people running away but arrested a 20-year-old man.

However, she said, the same business was broken into four hours later, where police arrested two men, aged 18, and 22, who were allegedly trying to run away with stolen alcohol.

And about 3am Sunday morning, two vehicles were stolen from a Muirhead house, Ms McKeown said, and two other vehicles were stolen from separate break-ins in Zuccoli.

“All four vehicles were then driven to a licensed premises located along the Stuart Hwy in Stuart Park before using one of the vehicles to gain entry into the building, causing significant damage to the entrance,” she said.

That business was the Buff Club.

Ms McKeown said three youths were in police custody over three commercial ram-raid overnight but did not specify what the other two ram raids were. of if she meant the business on Chung Wah Terrace.

In a separate media statement Ms McKeown said two supermarket bottle shops were ram raided in Alice Springs on Monday morning, with the offenders running off after police stopped their car using tyre spikes, while a man was taken to hospital after being attacked with large sticks in a house break-in, NT Police said.

Ms McKeown said that about 2:30am on Sunday morning, up to six youths armed with various weapons broke into a home on Chapman Rs, Nightcliff.

“The offenders have allegedly threatened the male resident with a knife before stealing a number of items, punching him in the head and stealing a Subaru WRX from the location,” she said.

“General duties police attended the scene initially and the vehicle was recovered abandoned a short time later in Malak.”

While at 11:50am the same day, Serious Crime Detectives arrested a 15-year-old boy at a Leanyer home and charged him with aggravated unlawful entry, aggravated robbery, deprivation of liberty, andggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Ms McKeown gave not details of the alleged crime but said the boy was remanded to appear in court on May 2.
