Two young men have been arrested and charged in connection to an alleged aggravated robbery following a series of residential break-ins in Alice Springs and a confrontation with an off-duty police officer in a backyard, NT Police said.

Police said several residences were unlawfully entered in the vicinity of Brookes St, Achilpa St and Kraegen St between 1am and 2:30am Wednesday morning, with an occupant of one of the homes confronting two intruders in his backyard shortly after 1am.

It’s alleged the two were attempting to climb a fence into another property when one of them struck the home owner who happened to be an off-duty police officer. He suffered a “minor injury” but did not need medical treatment.

Police said this morning that two men have been arrested over the incident and will appear in Alice Springs Local Court today.

A 20-year-old male has been charged with aggravated robbery, trespassing and unlawfully possessing property.

An 18-year-old is facing the same charges, in addition to possessing a controlled weapon and marijuana.

Police did not say how they found the men.

“Police continue to appeal for any further information in relation to a number of other property related offences committed in the area around the same time. If you have information, CCTV or dash cam footage, contact police on 131 444 and quote reference 9730715,” said Detective Acting Sergeant Andrew Nicholson.
