Australia-EU trade talks fail
Last-chance negotiations on a trade agreement between Australia and the European Union have fallen through, Politico has reported. Getting better access to the large European market for beef, sugar and sheep meat is imperative for Australia’s large agricultural sector. For Brussels, an agreement would grant better access to Australia’s vast reserves of strategic minerals. “Unfortunately, we have not been able to make progress,” Australian Trade Minister Don Farrell said. One day, we will sign a deal that benefits both Australia and our European friends, he said.

Victoria is Australia’s best-performing economy
Victoria is the country’s best-performing economy according to the latest CommSec State of the States report, Commbank.com reported. “Economic activity in Victoria in the June quarter was 7.7 per cent above its four-year average level of output and equipment investment was at record highs as well – up 19.7 per cent on the decade average” CommSec Chief Economist Craig James said. He, however, said that there was little to separate the economic performance of the states and territories. “We expect Victoria to face challenges from the other economies in the period ahead.”

Rosebank Engineering now providing F-35 wheels and brake repair work
Rosebank Engineering has activated its F-35 Lightning II wheels and brakes repair depot at its Bayswater facility in Melbourne, Victoria. The activation of its wheels and brakes repair depot comes under the F-35 Global Support Solution for aircraft operating in, or deployed to, the Indo-Pacific Region. “Rosebank Engineering was awarded a $2.26 million grant to support its depot activation for wheels and brakes, providing an investment in Australian skills and jobs as well as delivering a significant export opportunity,” Head of Aerospace Systems Division, Air Vice-Marshal Graham Edwards said. The company has partnered with the F-35 Joint Program Office, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, Honeywell, and the Australian Department of Defence, The Australian Government said.

Police minister axed months out from NT election
Kate Worden has been dumped as Northern Territory police minister and replaced with fresh-faced MLA Brent Potter, just months out from an election likely to be dominated by crime issues, The Canberra Times has reported. Mr Potter, a former political staffer and Australian army veteran, was elected in August 2022 after former chief minister Michael Gunner’s shock resignation. Mr Potter said he would focus on rising crime rates as the territory entered a summer likely to be marked by rising crime.
