The Fyles Government has rejected a recommendation from a scathing Public Accounts Committee inquiry into its flawed Local Decision Making program, that would explore the viability of community councils with local government structures in remote communities.
The committee’s inquiry report found profound fundamental failings with the LDM framework, including that were was a lack of understanding from Aboriginal people about what the Local Decision Making policy actually means, uncertainty about which services could be transitioned to community control, how and who they can be transitioned to, and that government agencies have essentially ignored the policy.
