Australia seeking a new ambassador to Ukraine

Australia’s foreign service is searching for a new ambassador to Ukraine but remains unclear if the successful applicant will be able to take up the position in the war-torn country Australia’s. The current ambassador to Ukraine, Bruce Edwards, is unlikely to ever return to the post in Kyiv, The Sydney Morning Herald has reported. There is still no clarity on whether his successor will be based in Warsaw or Kyiv. The country’s ambassador to Australia, Vasyl Myroshnychenko, said that Australia was missing out on direct access to sensitive briefings and information by not having a diplomat on the ground in Kyiv.

Neo-Nazi crackdown in Melbourne

Extra measures to crack down on neo-Nazism will be explored by the Victorian government after white supremacists taunted transgender rights protesters outside state parliament, neoskosmos.com reported. About 30 men from the National Socialist Movement marched along Spring Street in Melbourne at an anti-transgender rights rally on Saturday afternoon. The black-clad group repeatedly performed the Nazi salute and held signs calling transgender people offensive names, leading to violent clashes with hundreds of counter-protesters. “They target vulnerable minorities to incite hatred and fear,” Deputy Premier Jacinta Allan said.

A new super strength beer by Carlton and United Breweries will not be sold in the Northern Territory due to alcohol-fueled violence, The Sydney Morning Herald has reported. The Victoria Bitter Xtra beer comes in 250ml bottles and has 6 per cent alcohol, compared to 4.9 per cent in a regular VB.
