Gamilaraay woman and multi-ARIA nominated artist Thelma Plum will be performing at the National Indigenous Music Awards in Darwin in August, alongside award-winning Coodjinburra man Budjerah, Baraka, and Kobie Dee, among other top artists.
MusicNT executive director Mark Smith said Gugu Yalanji and Birrigubba man Dean Brady will also be performing bringing his Motown-inspired R&B to the big stage while Arnhem Land ceremony leader and songman Ngulmiya rounds out the line-up.
“This will be my third time lucky for me to play the NIMAs I can’t wait to finally play that beautiful amphitheatre in Larrakia Country!” Ms Plum said.
Coodjinburra man Budjerah will also appear, fresh from supporting Sheeran across his Australian tour, as will hip hop artist and Malyangapa Barkind woman, Barkaa, along with rapper Kobie Dee.
The event will also have Triple j’s Blak Out, hosted by Nooky. In addition, unearthed First Nations musicians from across the country will again have a chance to perform on the NIMA stage with the NIMA Triple j Unearthed competition, which will be launching soon.
“I’m geed to celebrate another big year for Indigenous artists and can’t wait to share the NIMAs with you mob on Triple j’s Blak Out, and I can’t wait to get around the action in person this year and watch the mob rip it up,” Nooky said.
The 19th annual NIMAs to be held at the Darwin amphitheatre on August 12 with tickets now on sale from the Darwin Festival website.
