A 15-year-old youth has been charged with attempted sexual intercourse without consent and aggravated assault following an alleged attack on a 51-year-old woman in Gray last week.
At around 9.40pm last Wednesday, the woman was walking from the Palmerston CBD when the youth allegedly grabbed her by the hair and dragged her into a vacant lot before assaulting her.
The victim had told police that around 9:40 pm on Wednesday, April 22, she was walking to a residence in Moulden from the Palmerston CBD.
She entered an alley way off Temple Terrace adjacent to the Oasis Shopping Centre leading into Hannibal Crescent. She then said it was clear she was being followed by an unknown male riding a scooter.
The male allegedly grabbed her by the hair and dragged her into a vacant lot in Hannibal Crescent. She fought back but the offender struck her several times to the face before he fled.
The male was followed from the scene by a witness who lost sight of him behind the Gray Shopping Centre.
Nearby residents were able to come to her aid quickly, police said in an earlier statement.
The victim suffered injuries and was hospitalised overnight.
Detectives from Sex Crimes Division and Strike Force Trident at Casuarina arrested the 15-year-old male yesterday and charged him with attempted sexual intercourse without consent and aggravated assault.
The youth has been remanded to appear in Darwin Youth Justice Court today.
