NT Police have arrested an 18-year old male for allegedly stealing a Toyota Hilux with two others in Alice Springs Saturday night that smashed into a campervan while attempting to overtake it.

Police said they observed the Hilux attempt to overtake the campervan on Palm Circuit around 10:25am Sunday morning eventually rear-ending the van, leading to the three occupants fleeing the vehcile.

The occupants of the van were not hurt, police said, and the 18-year-old was arrested after a short pursuit.

“The 18-year-old is currently in custody and is assisting police with enquiries. Strike Force Viper is continuing to investigate the incident and locate the remaining two offenders,” Superintendent James Grey-Spence said.

Another stolen car from an East Side residence was also stolen Saturday night but the Yaris was recovered early yesterday, dumped in Owen Springs.

“Police are urging anyone who witnessed these incidents, or who has information, to make contact on 131 444. Please quote reference 10026085,” Superintendent Grey-Spence said.
