NT Police are investigating the cause of a fire at an Alice Springs residence on Sunday afternoon that they suspect was started by a group of people, including an eight-year-old and an 11-year-old.
The fire was reported at 1:20pm on Lyndavale Drive, with the Joint Emergency Call Centre being told that a group had unlawfully entered the empty residence and allegedly started the blaze.
Emergency personnel attended and firefighters were able to contain the fire that caused extensive damage to the unoccupied home. A crime scene was declared and investigators are on scene.
“The Alice Springs Criminal Investigation Branch have identified two males, aged 8 and 11, who they believe were involved at various stages of the offending,” said Senior Sergeant Adam Donaldson.
“Further investigations are underway to identify the remaining offenders.
“Thankfully the residence was empty at the time and no injuries occurred as a result of the blaze.
