Police are calling for a witnesses to a woman being sexually assaulted in Palmerston early on Friday morning, the agency has said.

Police director of communications Mark Wilton said in a statement police believe that between 3am and 4am, a woman aged in her 40s was allegedly sexually assaulted near a bus stop on Woodroffe Avenue, in Woodroffe.

“The woman flagged down police a short time later and was conveyed to hospital for assessment,” Mr Wilton said.

Police are asking for any witnesses, or anyone who has information or CCTV, to call them on 131 444 (quote reference P26089887), or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the website.
