A male who allegedly assaulted a young girl in Ludmilla on Tuesday afternoon was still at large last night, with the NT Police calling for the public’s help to identify and locate him.
NT Police have been searching for the male, described as “165 centimetres tall, with brown skin and black hair”, after he allegedly assaulted the young girl on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the male approached the girl, whose age has not been revealed, on Lovegrove Street in Ludmilla at around 5:30pm yesterday and allegedly “assaulted her”.
Police did not say if the assault was sexual in nature.
“The male offender has fled the scene when a sibling of the young girl ran to her aid,” the media unit said in a statement.
“Police are actively searching for the male. He is described as being approximately 165 centimetres tall, with brown skin, black hair, wearing a white t-shirt with the number 53 on it, dark navy shorts and no shoes.
“Anyone who may have seen this man is urged to immediately contact police on 131 444. Please quote reference number 9700448.”
The incident follows the alleged rape of a woman in the nearby suburb of The Narrows last Friday night. That alleged perpetrator was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.
Police media and the executive have come under criticism in recent months for failing to properly inform the public about sexual assaults in a timely manner. They have also not informed the public of alleged sexual assaults, choosing instead to label them as general assaults.
