UPDATED: A 21-year-old man has been charged with sexual intercourse without consent in connection to an alleged sexual assault of a woman at a “business establishment” near the intersection of Billeroy Road and Stuart Highway on Friday evening, NT Police said.

Police had issued a statement asking for the public’s assistance to locate him late on Saturday night.

He was arrested at a Parap home on Sunday.

Police said they responded to the report of the sexual assault in Winnellie and established a crime scene on Friday around 6:30pm, but the suspect could not be found.

The victim was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with minor injuries.

“Police have reviewed CCTV footage and are following up on enquiries and the matter is under investigation by detectives from the Sex Crimes Division,” Detective Senior Sergeant Matt Akers said in a statement on Saturday night.

Police described the suspect in the statement on Saturday asking for public assistance, as male, approximately 18 to 25 years old, with a dark complexion, slim to athletic build, and wearing a purple t-shirt and black/dark grey shorts.

On Tuesday, police said the man had been charged with rape, aggravated assault, deprivation of liberty and aggravated robbery.

He was expected to appear in Darwin Local Court on Tuesday.

Witnesses who saw the described suspect or who may have dash cam footage at the time of the incident are urged to contact police on 131 444, quoting reference number 10238589.
