News Brief: First home owner numbers in the NT up over last 12 months

Treasury figures show NT First home owners are on the rise over the last 12 months to November in the NT.

In the year to November 2021, the number of first home buyer commitments in the Territory increased by 17.7 per cent to 1,281. Compared nationally, the number of commitments increased by 13.4 per cent.

First home buyers made up 36.1 per cent of new owner/occupier housing finance commitments in the year to November 2021 in the NT, the second largest proportion of the jurisdictions, compared with 32.4 per cent nationally.

In the year to November 2021, the number of non-first home buyer commitments (excl. refinancing) in the Territory increased by 65.8 per cent to 2,271. Compared nationally, the number of commitments increased by 32.6 per cent.

In November 2021, the number of housing finance commitments for owner occupation in the Territory increased by 26.1 per cent to 536. This was the second strongest increase of the jurisdictions, behind the Australian Capital Territory (up by 37.9 per cent). Nationally, the number of commitments increased by 13.3 per cent.
