Tennant Creek Airport has been selected by the Bureau of Meteorology as the site of a new S-band dual-polarised Doppler radar system, with final negotiations with the Airport Development Group underway for installation following years of delays.

The new weather radar, which the government said would include Tennant Creek, Elliott, and nearby townships and Aboriginal communities in its coverage area, will offer improved performance and range compared to the original radar in Tennant Creek that has not been functioning for more than a decade.
