Lack of qualifications, public comments raised ahead of Connolly appointment, internal federal documents show

A federal department held concerns about the Finocchiaro CLP Government’s proposed appointment of David Connolly as NT Administrator, newly released internal government documents show, with one brief suggesting Mr Connolly’s vast “meat inspection” experience “may not necessarily reflect the formal training or experience in public administration and understanding” necessary for the vice-regal position, while also raising concerns about the effect his offensive public comments could have on eroding the public’s trust in the role.

The documents, released this week through a Freedom of Information application, also raise questions about a mysterious conflict of interest declared by Mr Connolly that has been redacted in various government documents, with Mr Connolly asked to redo a section explaining how he would manage his conflicts of interest if appointed after being instructed “not [to] assume that he will be sworn in as Administrator” as he had in a previous version.

  1. The Federal Labor party Government being concerned about a unqualified person getting the job.
Now that’s got to be the joke of the month.

  2. There is a simple, single reaction following the reading of this discount. Frustration!

Governance is the one single foundation upon which we territorians rely.

When there occurs lack of understanding, clarity. And free and open engagement within Community. Inevitably . . . there is complete loss of trust.

  3. Incredible! Your not going to be seeing this article in the NT News.
