Police have charged a man after he allegedly assaulted a woman on Knuckey Street in the Darwin CBD and stole her phone early Wednesday morning.
Police said at around 2:45am, the 26-year-old man allegedly assaulted the woman on the corner of Knuckey Street and The Esplanade before stealing her phone.
Bystanders were involved in helping the woman and assisting in the arrest, police said, but provided no details of the nature of the “quick actions” which helped.
The man was arrested “shortly after”, police said, and was charged by serious crimes detectives with one count of aggravated robbery and remanded to face court at an unspecified date.
“Police arrested the alleged offender shortly after the incident,” said Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier.
