Not only would I not live in that state but I wouldn’t even go for a visit. The corruption is bad enough but it is their blatant acts that are so outrageous and blatant. What a bunch of parasites that are on the public purse. Victoria is no better not is sleazy, greasy Albanese’s mob.

“leave it to the discretion of the Minister for Police”
~Legislate it to be compulsory, remove discretion
“At no time, did she mention she would be tabling the report in Parliament”
~because she hoped not to and that this would all blow over
“failing to appreciate that the prohibitions on publishing the name”
~we don’t believe she failed to appreciate anything, we believe she was hoping no one would read and understand the relevant ICAC Act section, which you don’t have to be a lawyer to understand btw
~The pile on from ALP is not surprising but why doesn’t anyone ask them why they appointed Shamahan and then passed all his recommendations to facilitate cover ups of this nature?
~The stench of their hypocrisy is overwhelming.
“three paragraphs be redacted that Ms Finocchiaro said showed the specific, compelled evidence that led to the findings that Mr Murphy acted “negligently” and “incompetently””
~we think starting numerous Work Cover claims for the damage done to your psychological health from this, stemming from not getting any of the jobs that appear to be corruptly obtained by others, would force Bruce McLintock’s recommended redactions into the public arena.
“disregarded the NT Government’s Merit Selection Training Guide”
~shows his intent to deceive
“Incompetent and negligent”
~as a Police Commissioner, [and intent to deceive] does not constitute impropriety??? WE DISAGREE.
“by private email to Mr Kennon months before the hiring process”
~more intent to deceive, this is a common trick in Government to try to evade FOI applications and disclosure – needs consequences, the practice needs stamped out

That whole motley crew, mates and family members all, seems to have little to no regard for the reputation of the general Police Force.
Self interest comes first and f**k everybody else.
Monkey see, Monkey do: much like most politicians from the 2 big parties, the population’s understandable dislike and suspicion is overwhelming.
It’s a self-inflicted wound too as they are unable to stop themselves rorting the system, financially and psychologically.
This is the predictable outcome from all of them basically pumping raw untreated ‘distrust-sewerage’ into the rivers of public optimism for years and years. Standing by, wilfully blind, saying and doing nothing is just as bad in our book.
If you don’t clean up and protect your ‘waterway’, your verbal pollution and political-industrial waste kills everything in its path: a chance at better governance, financial self-sufficiency, happy healthy people of all shades and flavours, functioning schools, educated students, informed citizens, profitable businesses and a media which challenges those in power, calling out the lies from all sides.
You’re all a complete and utter disgrace to the Northern Territory.
You’ve made us a laughing stock for years and yet here you are doing exactly the self-interested same things over and over again.
There is a commissioner for public service workers whose job is to attend to this time of thing that of course, happened under Labor rule. You know them Chris they kicked you in the guts often enough.
The angel on Jim Jefferies' left shoulderon March 18, 2025 at 4:21 pm
There’s also a Police Commissioner role whose job it is, amongst other things, to not be corrupt, not be incompetent, not be negligent and BE honest and knowledgeable of process, regardless of who appointed who.
Nice ‘play the man not the ball’ comment btw.
Thank you for consistently showing everyone that your childish blame game is precisely what’s wrong with the system here in the NT and with the BOttOm Feeders populating it.
More “look at me saying stuff to the CM, look at me go!” and less “what can we all do to fix this continuing embarrassment of Governance” would be welcome but it seems our elected ‘leaders’ (leaders: what a f**king joke!) are not mature enough nor have any idea of what to do next other than try to protect themselves and throw everyone else under the bus.
The sooner someone comes in and drains this polluted swamp, with a real agenda of Change, including significant legislative Change, the Better.
Until then, we choke and splutter, desperate for clean air, swimming in their s**t while they get richer and their Super balances gets fatter.

Correction: Less “look at me saying stuff to the CM, look at me go!” and more “what can we all do to fix this continuing embarrassment of Governance” would be welcome.
Good lord seldom seen Chanceton has turned up full of indignation and demanding resignation. Oh please. Free flights, shares in grog wholesalers and you have not resigned. ‘Labor MLA Chansey Paech called on Ms Finocchiaro to front the media today and explain to the community why she “chose to lie to Territorians” about the scandal, or resign.’
I can not help but feel sympathy for Michael Murphy. I do believe he started his role as Commissioner with good intentions. Alas that was brief. He was either coerced, persuaded or thought it was a good idea, to make an apology at the Garma festival. So ill advised, especially without at least consulting with the NTPA. Maybe some input that would have not left former and serving members aggrieved that there was no acknowledgement of the outstanding service provided to Indigenous Communities. The relationships built, the service provided. We cannot keep ringing our hands about the past. No one moves forward. I believe he lost respect of the rank and file then and there were murmurings of discontent, memories of his many transgressions while a young man, tanked up and aggro. I can understand how after witnessing the past 12 years or more in the executive, the back stabbing and malice that had gone on, that he would feel the need to have those around him who he trusted implicitly. Unfortunately if those you want around you need your personal reference and a copy of your successful application, and a second panel member as a referee, it’s not going to fly. This man has a family and hopefully he can salvage a future. He, sadly, miscalculated this one.
Evening all, I’m quite comfortable a finding of impropriety is justified! I copied and pasted 2 moments: 1) I accept for the reasons explained in Counsel Assisting’s submissions at the conclusion of the investigation that Commissioner Murphy’s conduct does not constitute either illegality or impropriety,” (2) She also found that Mr Murphy forwarded a copy of his application for the position of commissioner and his CV “by private email” to Mr Kennon months before the hiring process. It was unclear, due to the redactions, if Mr Murphy volunteered that information, or if it was discovered through review of his private emails. Territorians were appalled to hear the then chief minister Natasha Fyles bare faced lie with that statement that mentioned the damage to the Howard springs facility was wear and tear( or words to that effect)! The position of Chief Minister at that moment was disgraced! Sadly, “lying “ must be be a redacted trait within the criteria to perform the role of Chief Minister! It only takes one R added to the end of the letters L I A and we have a deplorable situation wherein the past predicts the future! It’s becoming very clear that the time is coming for a formal letter along the lines of- Dear Governor General, We the people of the Northern Territory respectfully request, given the Northern Territory is a territory of the Commonwealth, and the federal Parliament has ultimate control over its affairs under Section 122 of the Constitution., direct the federal government to dissolve the seated Territory government. The people of the Northern Territory have lost both faith and confidence in both major political parties and furthermore, NT administrator.END – Just a quick idea of what POWER we Territorians can exercise! The Westminster system is powerful just ask Whitlam!! Have a great night Your NT federal senate CANDIDATE for One Nation! ( Please consider)
Would NT Independent recognise that matters of this gravity require time for consideration? The labor govt simply covered stuff like this up, stalled, stonewalled, lied, obfuscated. It NEVER came out under them. Making an issue/ complaint about how quickly the new chief minister made it public should be tempered, if NT Independependent wants to keep reputation as an unbiased reporting service. And if she changed her mind, from “cover-up” to “release”, it should be recognised as some kind of social progress, for all of us.
The angel on Jim Jefferies' left shoulderon March 19, 2025 at 1:02 am
Wow, from a CM cover up [we should really just end the conversation there] to a later release [forced by a deluge of negativity] is this what we call progress now?
This is a wonderful example of how little we have come to expect of our elected officials that we call that ‘progress’ and then want it recognised and applauded no doubt.
Quick, give little LiaR (funny from Darren) a public service medal!
It seems to me that the reputation of NT Police is eroding, which is quite unfair considering our police appear to cling to standards long since abandoned in the states. While Gunner’s jab mandate was destroying careers and lives across the Territory, this goaded some 4000 residents to protest in the Esplanade and at Parliament. While police in other states ware bashing old ladies and even pregnant women; when Gunner ordered the same violations of the Police Offences Act (1914) our police lined up with anti-riot gear and horses along the Esplanade but refused to charge unless protestors broke the law. As only one crazy person did and he was whisked away smartly, Police supervised an orderly march to the letter of the Law.
I was extremely impressed with our police then and even more so when reputedly, the toughest cop in the NT, Dave Walter, joined me in eliminating petrol sniffing, juvenile crime, and even adult crime, in one of the largest remote communities in Australia; all of this on official record. I want to remind our cops that older Territorians appreciate their record of performance and integrity, despite a few at the top being led astray by the opposite example of their leaders.
Looks more like surrounding himself with buddies than consolidating the police force management.
Not only would I not live in that state but I wouldn’t even go for a visit. The corruption is bad enough but it is their blatant acts that are so outrageous and blatant. What a bunch of parasites that are on the public purse. Victoria is no better not is sleazy, greasy Albanese’s mob.
