A good Samaritan was horrifically injured after being crushed by a car allegedly stolen and driven by a 15-year-old girl in Rapid Creek last night, NT Police have said.
Serious Crime Squad Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Jakson Evans said the man was run over on Casuarina Drive, Rapid Creek at 11pm last night when the victim was trying to prevent his neighbour’s vehicle from being allegedly stolen.
He said the man was seriously injured after being crushed against another vehicle, allegedly by the 15-year-old driver.
“A unit was unlawfully entered and a set of keys were stolen; as the offender was trying to steal the car one of the neighbours heard the disturbance, they went down stairs to try and stop the car being stolen,” he told Mix 104.9.
“Unfortunately the car has reversed into one of the neighbour’s and crushed him against another parked vehicle and the car was then able to drive off.
“We had a good Samaritan trying to do the right thing and has suffered some horrific injuries.”
An off-duty nurse in the area was able to aid the man before an ambulance arrived and he was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with “severe” injuries.
The stolen vehicle, a white Subaru Outback, travelled from Rapid Creek to Coolalinga and was significantly damaged before the youth was arrested.
Senior Sergeant Evans said a thorough investigation would take place into the incident but believed the youth acted alone.
“We were able to arrest the offender and were able to recover the motor vehicle,” he said.
“There are some other potential crashes along the way … obviously it’s quite a distance.
“We’re trying to capture everything that occurred between Rapid Creek and Coolalinga.”
