NT Police have arrested three people who allegedly established a business called ‘NT Debt Recovery Group’ and were sending out fraudulent debts and invoices for payment throughout the Darwin region.

Senior Constable Tim Jones said the trio also allegedly stole almost $25,000 of contents from a furnished apartment, before producing fraudulent doctor’s prescriptions to 19 chemists to unlawfully obtain pharmaceuticals.

Two men, aged 25 and 27, and a 23-year-old woman were arrested and charged with forgery, stealing and drug offences after detectives from the Drug and Organised Crime Division conducted a search warrant at a Rosebery house on Monday, he said.

Snr Cons Jones said that during the search warrant, police located dangerous drugs and evidence of fraudulent activity.

He said the trio’s alleged criminal activity began on March 1 when they leased a furnished apartment in Woolner and stole furniture and contents valued at approximately $25,000, they then all had medical consultations with doctors between March 14 and April 20, where they obtained lawful prescriptions.

Snr Cons Jones said they allegedly used the doctor’s details to produce fraudulent prescriptions at 19 chemists in the Darwin area and unlawfully obtained pharmaceuticals.

“Information suggests that they have been establishing lines of credit and sending out fraudulent debts and invoices for payment throughout the Darwin region,” he said.

“Police are seeking assistance from members of the public who may have been victims of fraud from this business”.

Snr Cons Jones said both men were charged with 20 counts of obtaining benefit by deception, one count of stealing and multiple other drug offences and were scheduled to appear before Darwin Local Court today.

The woman was summonsed to appear before Darwin Local Court at a later date.
