NT Police have said four male teenagers who burnt Palmerston playgrounds on August 4 will be subject to the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
In a statement, police spokesman Rob Cross said three 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old had been interviewed by Strike Force Trident detectives about the fires and will be subject to the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2005.
In an interview with Mix104.9 at the time of the fires, NT Police Commander Vicki Koum said playground equipment in George St, Johnston was burnt about 3pm on August 4, while playground equipment in Duwun Rd, Roseberry burnt about 10.25pm the same day.
Cmdr Koum said about 11:20pm, another playground in Lind Rd, Johnston burnt along with some nearby trees.
Youth diversion is for people aged between 10 and 17 years of age and may include a written warning, a conference involving the family, the victim and the offender, of referals to counselling for their behaviour. They may also have to attend drug and alcohol abuse programs to community service programs.
The offenders can only be in diversion programs twice, if they break the law a third time they will have to front the Children’s Court, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Surprise surprise, youth diversion programs as punishment. Lets face it, our so called “justice” system doesn’t work.
