An 85-year-old woman was first “bumped” by a member of a group of four adults, and then had her handbag stolen by the same person, in an Alice Springs car park on Friday, NT Police said.
Police director of communications Mark Wilton said that about 4.50pm on Friday police received a report of an aggravated robbery on the second level of a car park on the corner of Gregory Terrace and Bath Street in the town’s centre.
“The 85-year-old female victim was returning to her vehicle when four adult offenders, two women and two men, approached her,” Mr Wilton said.
“One of the offenders allegedly bumped into her, causing her to lose her balance, and stole her handbag. All offenders subsequently fled the area.”
Mr Wilton said the victim was not injured.
He said a 37-year-old woman was arrested a “short time later” and charged with aggravated robbery, theft, and breach of bail, and has been remanded into custody to appear at a later date, while the three other alleged offenders have not be caught.
