Expressions of interest to register floats for “A Very Darwin Christmas Pageant” parade will close on Monday, September 16, the city has announced.

This year’s Christmas Pageant is set to take place in the heart of Darwin City on November 16, featuring an expanded parade, dance performances, floats led by vehicles, and a variety of family-friendly entertainment. From live music to dance acts, there’s something for everyone to enjoy, the council said.

The highlight event will involve the lighting of the Christmas tree.

Participating in this year’s Christmas Pageant with a float is an “exciting” way to be part of the festivities, the council said.

Community organisations, educational institutions, companies, and non-profit entities are invited to embrace the festive season by signing up their float for the upcoming Christmas parade.

Following the success of its first year, the route for the Christmas Pageant float has been expanded to include a larger portion of the Darwin CBD, the council said. The expansion offers additional viewing spaces to accommodate the thousands of Territorians anticipated to be in attendance.

Last year’s pageant was a huge success, with over 13,000 locals embracing the community spirit and watching as 45 festive floats marched, spun, and danced through the city as part of the parade.

This year’s parade is set to start at 5:30 pm on Saturday, November 16.

The Christmas Pageant is a partnership with Activate Darwin and the Northern Territory Government.
