The havoc caused by Cyclone Marcus has cost Darwin Council nearly $4 million in damages, according to a report.
A finalised settlement of council’s insurance claim with TIO for the cyclone showed total costs for damage caused were $17,343,987, with $13,391,325 of that figure recovered.
This left council $3,952,662 out of pocket from the cyclone, which occurred on March 17, 2018.
The report, which is part of council’s ordinary meeting agenda for tomorrow night, said a $30,000 excess fee was required to recover costs.
It stated council had finalised all claims for funding from the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) fund.
“All funds received from NDRRA and TIO have been allocated in the current financial year with an amount of $816,871 referred to the 2020/21 budget for identified projects, $1 million added to council’s contingency reserve and (the) balance of recovered funds … placed in the Asset Replacement and Refurbishment Reserve,” the report said.
