Crash involving motorcycles and feral pigs kills teen on Arnhem Highway near Lambells Lagoon Road

An 18-year-old female passenger on a motorcycle was killed when two motorcycles collided with feral pigs 19km east of the Stuart Highway intersection on Arnhem Highway Monday night, NT Police said.

Around 8:20pm, police received reports that two motorcycles had collided with pigs near the Lambells Lagoon Road intersection.

Responding officers and St John Ambulance arrived at the scene, where the female who was a “pillion passenger” was pronounced dead. Two males, aged 24 and 26, were were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital via Careflight, with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the motorcycles were heading inbound on the Arnhem Highway when they hit the feral pigs that were on the roadway.

Detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit are continuing their investigation. The highway was expected to be closed for the morning in both directions with diversions for light vehicles.

Another serious incident occurred on the Arnhem Highway this week, where a 56-year-old man was killed. The current road toll in the Territory is now 34.
