Judicial Commission dismissed nearly all complaints against judges last year with no investigation

The government body that investigates complaints against the Territory’s judges dismissed 15 of 16 complaints it received last financial year, according to its annual report, with only one active complaint into substantiated allegations of “judicial bullying” currently being dealt with.

The Judicial Commission was established in November 2021 to consider complaints against judicial officers and NT Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NTCAT) members pertaining to behaviour or “capacity issues”, including excessive delays in delivering judgments, inappropriate courtroom conduct and “health issues affecting” a judicial officer’s ability to perform their official duties.
