It appears that senior ranks in NT police have not learnt a thing since the McRoberts disaster.
If a racist comment stopped a career in the NT, we wouldnt have:
-any journalists
-any Newspaper editors
-any cops
-any corrections staff
When most people think about racism, they probably think of racial slurs, hate crimes, or other overtly racist actions. There are, however, other less obvious yet ultimately even more destructive forms of racism. Structural and systemic racism are often invisible—at least to those who are not its victims.
Police Minister Potter keeps denying police systemic racism but if police who make or distribute racist or offensive race based comments are not punished for their actions isn’t that the system working to protect them?
Unfortunately, Minister Potter himself distributed racist, offensive, misogynistic and homophobic slurs whilst a Major in the Army. Potter had absolutely no regard for Defence legislation or policy when he broke them.
Potter is no position to judge or act against police who do the same.
This article reads like you have a vendetta against the Constable and police commissioner.
How disgusting of you to actually name a member of TRG. You have put this man’s life in danger you idiot.
Not your best work Chris. Indy is generally accurate, balanced and in perspective. Fail on all counts here.
We need to remember there is a massive difference between racism and prejudice. Serve 6mnths in the NT Police and see how prejudiced you become.
There are obviously issues within the force, but if we continue to single out individual officers, naming and shaming them, they we will continue to lose more officers from our Force. Focus on the top brass and the seemingly continued political interference from our govt.
This story might have more weight if we saw the Police Minister held to the same standard you’re demanding of the copper.
