The Finocchiaro CLP Government has moved to deal with a backlog of cases in the court system and a major lack of judicial officers by appointing two new acting judges, while also making the Chief Minister’s family friend Steve Ledek a permanent judge, which follows reports the Territory’s court system had come to a “screaming halt” in recent weeks.
Mr Ledek and Giles O’Brien-Hartcher have now been appointed “ongoing judges of the Northern Territory Local Court”, while Sally Ozolins and Jonathan Bortoli have been appointed acting judges to March 2026, Attorney-General Marie-Clare Boothby said in a statement issued Friday evening.
