Calls for public inquiry mount as NT Police backflip on investigating criminal complaint against senior detective

A criminal complaint alleging a senior NT Police detective perverted the course of justice during the investigation of former constable Zach Rolfe for murder will now be investigated by the NT Police – the agency has claimed – after first shutting the complaint down, adding fuel to calls for a full public inquiry.

The complaint was filed by Mr Rolfe’s lawyer Luke Officer to Police Commissioner Michael Murphy in June, alleging Detective Senior Sergeant Wayne Newell perverted the course of justice by allegedly interfering in the evidence of an expert witness in the Rolfe murder case and withholding other evidence that was favourable to Mr Rolfe’s defence.

  1. How long will the police protection racquet in this matter continue. Too many of them with something to hide. Which side is the commissioner standing. It seems that Labor hide behind cabinet secrecy to get out of responsibility.
