A man has been arrested after threatening two different security guards in two different bottle shops with an “edged weapon” after stealing alcohol, before he punched an arresting officer in the stomach, while another man spat in the faces of two officers after being arrested after stealing a car, NT Police said.
Acting Commander James Gray-Spence alleged in a statement that about 4pm Thursday, a 44-year-old man walked into a Bradshaw Terrace, Casuarina bottle shop and stole alcohol before threatening a security guard with an edged weapon and then leaving.
He said soon after the same man again stole alcohol and threatened a security guard with an edged weapon, this time in a Trower Rd, Casuarina, bottle shop. The exact weapon used was not given by police, for unexplained reasons.
The man was found near the Casuarina bus exchange, and while being arrested he punch an officer in the stomach, and he is expected to be charged with multiple offences including stealing, assault, assaulting police and going armed in public, police said.
While around midnight Friday police used tyre spikes to stop a stolen Honda Jazz which was being driven around the Alice Springs city centre, Commander Gray-Spence, with a 13-year-old boy, and a 16-year-old boy arrested, along with a 22-year-old man.
He said that the 22-year-old spat in the faces of two officers while in the watch house and said he is expected to be charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and assaulting police, while the two boys would be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2005.
“Assaults on our officers, particularly spitting, is completely disgusting and shameful behaviour,” Commander Gray-Spence said.
“Thankfully the employees at the bottle shops and the security weren’t injured, and our members weren’t seriously injured.”
They must have been really scared by Chance waving his glossy brochure. If you really want to scare them just put them in a cell with Chancey for a few nights and he might re-educate them.
