NT Police are calling for the public’s help to identify a group of men who allegedly joined in on the brutal bashing of an Alice Springs bartender after he ejected a drunk patron who had threatened people with a star picket.

Club Eastside staff members initially ejected the intoxicated man from the premises at about 5:30pm on Monday, NT Police said.

The man later returned armed with the metal fence post and chased a staff member, police alleged.

“A patron inside the venue attempted to call police when it is alleged the man grabbed the phone from him and smashed it and a nearby computer before throwing a star picket at him,” NT police said in a statement.

A staff member again ejected the man from the bar, but they then got involved in an altercation outside.

“Four unknown men are alleged to have joined the altercation, with one of the men kicking the 63-year-old staff member before stomping on his head,” police said.

The men also threw items at the front of the premises before leaving the area.

The bartender was taken to the Alice Springs Hospital.

Police are urging anyone with a mobile video or dashcam video of the area at the time to come forward.

The incident was reported on the same day the government rejected Alice Springs MLA Robyn Lambley’s calls for a non-partisan committee to investigate crime problems in Central Australia.
