A horrific photo has been posted of a security guard who was savagely assaulted, reportedly breaking his eye socket, during a brawl in Darwin’s CBD on Sunday morning.

The 21-year-old guard reportedly sustained the injury after being kicked in the face during the brawl, according to prominent Darwin businessman Jason Hanna, who shared a bloody photo of the guard and a video of the incident on social media today.

“I stand by the amazing job the security in the CBD have been doing and what they have managed to achieve in such a short time,” Mr Hanna said in a Facebook post.

“This is the worker who has had his eye socket broken from being kicked directly in the face.

“The media has painted it in a light that suggests that his handling of the incident was inappropriate and yet nothing could be further from the truth.

“Police have arrested all three offenders and no charges have been laid on the security guard.”

Another media outlet first shared a video of the incident, which occurred at 3am on Smith Street, showing a woman being dropped on the ground by the security guard, as a man took off with the guard’s buggy.

However, a second video later emerged showing the woman approaching the brawl and appearing to kick the guard while he’s on the ground.

Police have confirmed a 20-year-old woman has been charged with assault on the security guard following the incident.

Mr Hanna who owns several restaurants around the CBD, applauded the work contracted security had done around Darwin city, calling it an “essential service”.

“I call on the council and NT Government who are funding this service to support and defend these contractors and ensure that the woman who has caused such physical damage is punished to the full extent of the law,” he said.

“I stand with this guard and his teammates for the excellent job they have done in making our CBD safer and invite all members of the public to do so too.”

The security guards work for the company Territory Protective Services, who is contracted by government-funded body Activate Darwin.
