The Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Education has settled a compensation claim made by its former chief financial officer but it has not disclosed how much they paid her after she took the institute to the Federal Court over her dismissal.
Court documents show Sophie El Mouttie lodged her complaint against the BIITE, an application over a dismissal from employment in contravention of a general protection, on February 1, and the matter was resolved on September 4 with no costs ordered, after it was referred to assisted dispute resolution on April 4.

Some years ago a lovely lady spent three years at Batchelor studying as a teacher. Was given the mortar board and gown treatment at the end of the three years as an outstanding person which she really was. Unfortunately she was unable to fill in the simplest of forms and needed assistance and help at every turn. Beside being an expensive three years for the government, it was very discouraging and embarrassing for the lady concerned. She never did get into teaching. Very sad situation.
