An engine room fire on cattle export ship the Brahman Express has led to authorities directing the vessel back to Darwin Port, authorities have said.

Australian Maritime Safety Authority chief executive officer Mick Kinley said the authority was alerted to an engine fire on the Luxembourg-flagged livestock carrier ship, the Brahman Express at 12:25pm on Wednesday, and said they understood the fire was extinguished promptly, and there were no injuries of crew or livestock.
